Is vaping just as bad as smoking? Is everything that the mainstream media has been feeding us about the bad effects of vaping true? Does the vaping industry raise serious health concerns? These are just some of the questions that one might ask when hearing about the long-debated issue if vaping is just as bad as smoking a cigarette.
While there are some medical professionals that claim there are health risks associated with vaping, there was no study proven that someone indeed has contracted any form of disease from it. Since the start of the vaping fad in the mid-2000s, there wasn’t any enough data on how much our body is affected by vaping in the long-term.
One notable study though that suggests a potential health risk for vaping is a study showing that formaldehyde, a carcinogen and one of the byproducts of burning propylene glycol, may be produced and inhaled while vaping on high temperatures. It is important to know though, that on moderate vaping temperatures, which is most-likely how hot you will vape, no traces of the said chemical compound was found. Seriously, will anybody vape to the point of getting dry hits 100% of the time?
Smoking on the other hand, makes you look younger when you die. Why? An alarming number of smokers die at a very young age. Even with WHO saying that smoking is “the single most preventable cause of death in the world”, people just couldn’t get enough of it and continue to their ways.
Cigarette smoking causes 480,000 deaths annually just in the United States alone. That’s about 1/5 of the USA’s total population or to put it in a more clearer picture, around 1,300 people dying everyday. From smoking, you’d die looking 10 years younger, and will die 10 years younger than everyone else. That’s how serious this is but people are completely missing the picture.
Choose the lesser of two evils? Not really. While there are studies saying that both cigarettes and vaping causes signs of short-term lung damage and inflammation, no further study has proven that vaping causes anything abrupt to the body. Well, except probably all that negative news that the tobacco industry has been trying to circulate to keep the cigarette industry alive.
To everyone that’s a part of the vaping community, let us live to the advocacy of reducing the risk of smoking-related diseases by helping people quit. By eradicating one smoker at a time, it won’t take long before the tobacco industry finally lays to rest and the world becomes smoke-free.
We were once smokers too; but we decided to make the switch for the better.
