What Is an Ohm?

It is important to know what an Ohm is before you try out sub-Ohm vaping. An Ohm is the standard unit used for measuring the resistance of a coil. The symbol used for an Ohm is; Ω. Most mouths to lung tanks have a resistance of 1.2Ω to 2.0Ω. A sub-Ohm occurs when the resistance of a coil is below 1 Ohm.

Understanding Sub-Ohm Vaping

If the resistance of a coil reduces and constant voltage passes through it, the current passing through it increases resulting to heating and production of vapour. Thick wires have little resistance to current flow since they have a big surface area.

Sub-Ohm Vaping is when you use a vaporiser whose coil has a resistance of below 1 Ohm. You can inhale the vapour in two ways, putting the smoke in your mouth briefly before inhaling or inhaling directly to your lung. This might sound like a simple thing, but it is somewhat complicated. So, let’s talk about it more.

Sub-Ohm Vaping involves three things:

  • Sub tanks
  • Battery
  • Liquid

Sub Tanks

Sub tanks usually have high airflow for two reasons:

  1. To allow you to inhale a significant amount of vapour continuously. When the steam mixes with a lot of air, it forms big clouds.
  2. The massive flow of air helps to prevent the overheating of the coil. This reduces the chances of producing a burnt taste
    Batteries

Sub tanks use unique kind of batteries. Sub tanks generate more heat than regular tanks, drawing a lot of power from the batteries. So you need sub ready batteries. The batteries come if various shapes and you should check while purchasing to ensure you buy the right type.

Liquids

The primary ingredients in the e-liquid are PG and VG. PG produces a scratchy feeling at the back of the throat. People looking for a cigarette substitute usually enjoy this sensation. VG provides a smooth taste and emits more clouds. Most people use E-liquids with high VG quantities to produce big clouds while inhaling little nicotine.

Things to Keep in Mind

  • You can only use sub-ready batteries; other cells can burn out the coil
  • You should use e-liquid with high VG for sub tanks
  • The sub liquid should contain little nicotine
  • If you are using a new coil, ensure it submerges in the fluid. This will avoid the wire in the coil burning the cotton

Pros of Sub-Ohm Vaping

  • It produces a lot of vapour
  • The steam produced is warm
  • There are many flavours to choose from

Cons of Sub-Ohm Vaping

  • It uses a lot of e-liquid
  • You need to have some inhale techniques
  • The batteries drain faster

Is Sub-Ohm Vaping Harmful?

Well, the answer to this question can be no, and yes. Sub Ohm vaping is not regarded as dangerous but depending on the sub tank you use, there can be some risks. For example, the batteries you use can be damaged just like in any other gadget.

If you use low quality vaping gear, you will most likely inhale substandard flavoured vapour compared to the usual e-cigs. There is also a risk of inhaling burn metal vapour. In order to minimize such risks, ensure you buy high quality vaping gears that are designed with your safety in mind.
